December 2, 2011 – We have been in La Paz for a couple of days now, weather is great as always at this time of year (actually all season). Tonight we are going to dinner at Los Magueyes Restaurant & Bar, one of our favourites.

November 20, 2011 – Throughout history Mexico has experienced many violent conflicts.  The most famous perhaps is the Mexican Revolution from 1910-1920.  The revolution happened because Mexican’s of every class and social standing could no longer tolerate the corrupt dictator President Porfino Diaz who had ruled for 30 years.  This revolution proved fatal to many revolutionary leaders and heroes and over two million Mexican men & women during this 10 year period.

November 9th, 2011- Hola everyone, we are well on our way to a great tour, good group and lots of fun!  The road construction after Maneadero was very doable, a little muddy because of the rain, nothing to fret about.

October 10, 2011 – Many Canadians do not know that Thanksgiving is a statutory holiday in most jurisdictions of Canada, with the exception of the Atlantic provinces, although workers engaged in a federal undertaking or work on the east coast do enjoy this day off.  As a liturgical (religious) festival, Thanksgiving corresponds to the English and continental-European Harvest festival, with churches decorated with cornucopias, pumpkins, corn, wheat sheaves, and other harvest bounty, English and European harvest hymns sung on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

The Grito de Dolores (“Cry of Dolores”) was the battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence, uttered on September 16, 1810 by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Roman Catholic priest from the small town of Dolores, near Guanajuato.  In the early nineteenth century, Mexico, with a little influence from the US and France, began talking about a revolt against Spain.

August 20, 2011 – We want to congratulate Discover Baja Travel Club on 20 years of support and service to those travelers, tourists and residents of Baja California, Mexico.  Discover Baja was founded in August 1991 by Hugh and Carol Kramer, who are passionate about Baja, its people, culture, stunning beauty and natural wonders.

The US State Department has issued numerous travel advisories concerning visits to Mexico. As we discussed in a previous post —Which parts of Mexico are currently subject to US travel advisories?— the advisories focus on specific areas of Mexico. Unfortunately, many potential tourists overlook the geographic specificity and get the impression that all parts of Mexico are dangerous. Previous posts clearly indicate that levels of drug war violence vary enormously from place to place in Mexico.

July 1, 2011 – As we celebrate our country’s birthday today it is important to remember what was going on elsewhere in North America at the same time.  144 years ago the Constitution Act officially proclaimed Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867, with four provinces: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

June 19, 2011 -Good morning everyone, for all you Fathers out there take the time to enjoy your family today. My Dad past away a couple of years ago at 90 years old and I still think about him often.  He was born at the end of World War I and raised during the great depression in Burnaby, BC.  This experience during his formative years shaped  his outlook on life and the values he embraced.

June 15, 2011 – Well the big day is here! It has come down to Game 7 for the Stanley Cup for the Vancouver Canucks. I do not usually follow hockey much since we are away most of hockey season, however I have been following closely since our return in April.
